We are aware of an issue with the Safari browser where some iPad users will experience low playback volume for MakeMusic Cloud recordings or accompaniments; this may be the case when playing back through external speakers/headphones as well as the iPad speakers. Apple is aware of the issue, which is unique to Safari and affects apps that utilize playback and recording simultaneously, such as MakeMusic Cloud.

In the Practice App, playback volume becomes quiet after allowing microphone access in Safari. On the other hand, if the user chooses Cancel in the microphone access prompt, playback volume will be normal.

Choosing Cancel in the mic access prompt might serve as a workaround if you are using MakeMusic Cloud for playback and practice but do not need to record your playing or receive an assessment. If you allow the microphone in order to record, we recommend using headphones. Using headphones will allow you to listen to the accompaniment without the mic picking it up, which helps with assessment accuracy, and it may also alleviate the low playback volume versus playing through internal iPad speakers.

However, if you are a teacher listening to recordings in the Gradebook, you will likely notice that you have to turn up your device to the maximum volume in order to hear submissions recorded on iPad. There is not currently a known workaround for this, but using headphones should help out here too.
