A class enables Educators to communicate with and teach students using SmartMusic. Set up a class to create assignments for students, grade assignments and include targeted feedback. Through classes, Educators gain access to tools in SmartMusic that achieve, track, and present student growth.

To create a class, log into and select Classes. The Classes page appears. Select Create a Class.

The Create Your Class page appears. Select how the class will be funded. Choose No one. This class is free to create a Free class. Students who join this class do not need a subscription. Only Essential Content can be accessed and assigned to students in a Free class. For more information, take a look at Managing SmartMusic access.

To choose School-Funded, you need to have purchased Basic and or Standard student seats. This option allows your students to enroll in your class without needing a subscription of their own. Choose Student-Funded to create a class where students need to purchase a Performer subscription if they don't already have one to enroll in the class. Once you have chosen one of the three options, select Next. To select School-Funded or Student-Funded you must be a Full Access Educator.

The Class Profile page appears. Select the Access level for the class. For School-Funded classes, you can choose either Basic or Standard access depending on the seats purchased. Student-Funded classes can only have Standard access. School-Funded and Free classes are the only classes that can have their access level changed. See Editing class access for more information.

Enter your Class Name, Educator Display Name, and the last date that students can join (if applicable). When you have entered all the necessary information select Create Class.

Invite new and previously enrolled Students to join your class by following the instructions in our Adding Students to your class and Enrolling previous Students into your class articles.
