This feature would allow teachers to upload a MusicXML file created from any notation software, and then assign it to students.

This first step would allow single-part import (each part should be imported individually). MP3 audio files will not be supported for this iteration.

    Hi all,

We have started the implementation of this feature.

We expect a first version to be available mid-October. I will keep you updated as we're making progress.

This is crucial as far as I am concerned. The choral and sight singing materials that SmartMusic provides are too limited to be of much use for my program. I need to be able to upload files I've created for both sight singing assessment and choir parts assessment.

Yes- Educators use this as much as the online library. This is a must for use of this program.

This is imperative! I need to start this now! It was a waste of my money to purchase this for my program if I am not able to do this.

I also can not use this product until I can upload my XML files - absolutely essential to my program!

Why will MP3 audio files not be supported?  The library simply is not large enough to cover the entire wind band repertoire, and many of the pieces my students are working on are not available on your platform.  Having the ability to upload an MP3, edit and create a specific assignment was one of the most useful aspects of the program.

Do we have an update on when this feature will be available?  This is absolutely critical to my program and currently renders smart music useless to us without it.

    Hello Catharine,

We've done good progress on the development of this feature: we're starting the internal testing of the first version this week, so we're expecting teachers to be able to start using musicXML import by mid-October.

    Best,

    Greg

    Greg,

Could you please email us when XML feature is ready.  I'm waiting and ready.  Trying to test for district auditions.

    Thanks,

    Hi Greg,

I am also waiting and ready to use this feature. Any updates since your last message 10/3?

    Thanks,

I'm also eager for this feature to be ready! It's one of the crucial features I used to have with the software version. Hope it is available very soon!

Accompaniment does not work with this feature. Accompaniment should play all parts packaged with the "movement," even if those parts are imported as individual XML files.

I imported xml files from Sibelius and my students report that the tempo changes don't happen, even though metronome markings are included. Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi Heather,

Could you please send me the .sib file at gdellera@makemusic.com? I'll have a closer look.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

Do we have a time frame when the "edit" feature will be available? I wanted to make my own "book" but need to add parts as I go. When I went back to add a part, I couldn't get into the exercise. Thank you!

    Hi Beth,

    Thanks for your message,

We're a little cautious about editing and deleting uploaded books, as it may have deep consequences when those books have been assigned.

We're working on making the whole process safe and flexible at every step, and I'll keep you posted as soon as we allow a little more flexibility.

Thank you for your patience and your feedback!

    Best,

    Greg

Similar to Heather - I uploaded xml files exported from Finale. Tempo changes were present, but not the rit. - even though I included this in the tempo map. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly? Any thoughts?

Also curious if there are any discussions about integrating the export as SmartMusic in Finale with the New SmartMusic, as it functions in the Classic version?

    Hi Dan,

I'll check with Michael Good (inventor of MusicXML) what kind of information we carry from Finale to MusicXML. Could you send the Finale file to gdellera@makemusic.com ?

@Heather, I reiterate my request: if you have the mentioned Sibelius file, that would be great!

    Best,

    Greg

I know it will be some time but is there any news on when we can upload a MusicXML file with more than one part (a score) instead of each part individually?

I imported all the parts as individual MusicXML files for a band piece.  When it does the play back for assessment, it only does the individual parts.  Will SmartMusic be able to blend these files soon so the students can practice playing with the full band accompaniment?

On reading these posts, my question is similar to Seans'.   I am wondering where this stands?  I am trying to decide between you and PracticeFirst.  There I have the ability to import a XML score (one file) and play one part while the rest of the staves play back as accompaniment.  However, yours has better sounds and a better library.

Is the ability to do this coming?

    Thanks,

I've created several rhythm exercises in Finale, exported them as XML files, and uploaded them to SmartMusic. Aside from the frustrating microphone issues (so much better in SMClassic), I've gotten everything to work correctly, with one major problem--in assessment mode, the program doesn't understand ties. When I clap the rhythms correctly, observing the ties, it registers every tied note as a mistake--a red note. When I clap incorrectly--clapping all the tied notes--they register green/correct. The whole point of the exercises is to help my students master some complicated syncopation, so the ties are essential. Am I doing something wrong in Finale in the way I create the files? Or is this a bug in the Smart Music side of things? Thank you!

    Screenshot of rhythm performed perfectly...

Hi Greg. What's the status of score MusicXML import? That's the big one for me, with most of our exercises and pieces being arranged for our particular ensemble. Hearing one's part amidst accompaniment is 1/2 of the value of SmartMusic.

    Thanks!

    Andrew

Is this issue resolved? There has not been anything response since November.

    The issues:

Import composition as a single XML.  Not the incredibly cumbersome procedure of creating multiple XML files from a single composition.  This can currently already be done in PracticeFirst.

Be able to hear all other parts in the XML file as an accompaniment.  Also, currently available in PracticeFirst.

Here the accompanying tracks, with the appropriate instrument.

I look forward to your response.

I echo the same question as Russ.  This needs to be easier not harder.  We all have Finale files that we have saved as .smpx files.  Hoping this happens sooner rather than later.  Thanks.

I would also like the ability to hear the accompaniment parts, not just the main part.  Also, agree with Asa Burk.  The ability to also use the .smpx files would be great as I'm sure many of us have these files in our archives already.

I came here to see how to load XML accompaniments in new SmartMusic (same as Andrew and Angel). I see, Greg, that you have not checked in since November. What's the status of having uploaded files contain accompaniments or sync with other uploads to create accompaniments?
