I am requesting that only one microphone check be needed for each log-in session. Currently, a mic check must be performed every time an assignment is recorded. It's time consuming and seems unnecessary to check the mic every assignment.

Hi folks. I wanted to provide a bit of clarification on why we require the mic check every time you open a new title. The microphone check is adjusting for recording and playback latency. Meaning, it's adjusting the assessment based on the delay between when it plays the test tone and when the microphone hears the tone. This latency can vary greatly depending on your computer/microphone/speaker setup, which is why we need to check it.

Additionally, Chrome is regularly running its own latency adjustment in the background which we also need to adjust for. Since this can happen at any time, we can't guarantee that after you close one title and open another, our calibration settings will still be correct. Hence, the requirement every time.

At this point, this unfortunately remains a hard requirement to provide accurate assessment.

Yeah I totally agree with this one a lot. When I see these kids practicing it is completely tedious. Get rid of it.

If they sign in/out make they do it then.

My kids are pulling apart head phone jacks because they need to un-plug head phones multiple times. This is costing me extra $.

Even as an educator doing mic check every time to help students complete assignments is too much. Please eliminate after the first assignment.

This is badly needed. Teaching a room full of beginner students and having to calibrate the mic every time I change songs costs us a lot of useful time. Not to mention the fact that when it asks me to do a mic check it doesn't work half the time, even though I just played on the previous song. Something must be wrong with how it is recognizing the device because it will work and then when I change it no longer thinks my mic is there.

As a student using a desktop, this would be very much appreciated. I have to go through a long setup process just to get this program to let me record. It would be great if this microphone check could be completely turned off for convenience, but I get that it is probably intended to result in better recording quality.

Not only should it be eliminated, it needs to change. The mic check should be done manually by the student and not from the software. Currently students using a headset on a PC with no speakers can get the mic to work because it wont pick up the smart music sound.

I do not think Smart music reads these posts. The oldest is three years old and still no fix.  I used the old version and I do not remember having to reconfigure the mic.  Seems like if the configuring was done at sign in that should be sufficient.  Thank you

I'm ok with that. Thank you Jon for the clarification.
