Need to have:

  • Numbers for each example
  • All parts when assigned (I can't assign a Concert Bb scale, only SOME instruments will see it.  IT IS THE Bb MAJOR SCALE!!!)

according to Dr. Sheldon, This is Texas' preferred method it.  Then this should be a priority

I can't be the only one frustrated.

    Hi Blake and CIS Bands,

My name is Peter Flom, and I help manage the team that works on this and other method books. We actually saw the same problems you've been explaining about this book, and for that reason we decided to rework the book late last year.

In the current version of the book that appears in New SmartMusic, the exercises are now numbered, as they appear in the current published edition of the method. Additionally, while my team does not work directly on New SmartMusic's assigning feature, I was able to open the book and assign a few scales to all 18 instruments successfully in my test class.

Are either of you still running into the same problems? If so, please let me know and I may have some more questions about how you're accessing the book. This method book is of course an important one for you and many other SmartMusic users, so I want to make sure using it works the way we expect.

I hope you're seeing better results, but if not please let me know as soon as possible, thank you!

Yes Peter, I am still having the problem.  No numbers and only a few instruments for the Bb scale.

I closed out, cleared my cache and tried.  I do not see what you are saying.

Thank you for your time...This will be a huge help.

    Ah, thank you Blake!

I didn't realize you were referring to book 2. Even though that book is still part of the Sound Innovations series, it's a wholly separate book in our system, so we must address/fix it separately from the first book. I'm afraid book 2 does still exhibit all the problems you mentioned, and while I don't have a specific date I can promise for now, I can tell you that we are planning to correct this book as well.

A lot of the reason for this book behaving strangely is tied to the process it took to move our content from the SmartMusic Classic library into New SmartMusic, and unfortunately we've seen this behavior with a couple method books. We are actively reworking books like this as part of our content release schedule - I believe the most recent ones with changes were Sound Innovations book 1, and both Accent on Achievement books - and you'll periodically see many methods getting improvements over the coming months. Again, I wish I could tell you exactly when Sound Innovations bk 2 will be fully fixed, but we do expect the book to work better in the future.

I know this doesn't solve the problem right now, but hopefully I've shed some light on why the book behaves so strangely, and how we intend to correct the problem. Please let me know if there's anything I can clarify for you.

    Best,

You are not the only one. I am using book 1. When I get to an assignment that introduces a new note I have to make multiple assignments for instruments. The groupings of which don't make any musical sense either. I just didn't assign the examples that introduce the new pitches. (Except Level 1. That works).

Still no numbers in SI Book 1 for strings. This would be extremely useful, both to my students and to me. We have just started using the New Smart music in the last few weeks and it has been difficult to get rolling.
