If a student completes or submits a take, and wants to listen back, but either had the accompaniment off or headphones on to help with assessment, they should be able to add in the accompaniment track while they listen.

When they submit an assignment it also only submits their recorded part (not the background). Music is an aural art form and in order to be able to judge dynamics and tempo and such, I need to be able to hear the background music as well as the student submission.

Agreed - being able to hear the background music helps those who grade the assignments, as well as students to hear when they are on/off the beat.

This is very strange. Recordings ideally shouldn't be conducted from a microphone next to speakers. The accompaniment track should be present (added digitally) when recording and/or listening back via headphones.

Anything update on this yet? I'm trying to grade submissions and having a hard time grading due to not being able to hear any kind of reference tempo or pitch or anything.

We need to be able to hear the background when students submit assignments. I cannot tell if they are playing in time with the music because all I hear is them. I have no idea if they play in tune with the music because all I hear is them. I need to be able to hear what the students hear (the background track) in order to fully assess their submission.

Yes, this is a huge problem. We need to be able to hear the accompaniment to see how the student is relating to the accompaniment. I'm doubting the "no microphone needed" claim. I think that SM would solve some of these problems by going back to a USB microphone. But then they need to sell them at a reasonable price ($30 isn't reasonable).

Agreed. The student could be playing all the correct notes and rhythms but not aligned with the accompaniment part.

Not having the accompaniment or the My Part or the Click in the students playback recording makes SM online useless.  I can just have them play with an mp3 and record it with a different program.  Why would you discontinue the most important feature used for evaluating students performance?  I have been telling all students in school and private studio that SM Online is useless and get SM Classic.  I sure hope that come August 2020 this has been corrected or several hundred students will not be using Smartmusic anymore.  Please prioritize and fix this now!

Also this request is 2 years long and has 11 votes which makes it one of the top ten requested feature vote getters for the last two years.  Yet it hasn't been prioritized and fixed.  I just talked to a tech at SM by phone who told me it hasn't been prioritized still.  Why is that?
