Hi All,

I'm now to smart music and have tried out doing online assignments. My kids have been doing quite badly generally so far, particularly my 6th graders who are mostly complete beginners. Would you have any advice for what / how to grade for beginners?

Thanks,

a LOT has to do with PERCUSSION getting poor scores (even me)

Please read and vote for my posts...I have a lot but it will help us all!

I have been voting Blake. My hope is that this will help.

It seems to me that they system is not set up for beginners at all. A kid on a wind instrument is going to be out of tune sometimes no matter what they try to do. Smartmusic needs to be adjustable for individual students - give some kids a MUCH larger window of hertz to be within for a note to be considered in tune. That could be reduced as the student improves so that they have to listen to themselves more once they have a grip on things like holding the instrument + reading music + blowing air at a consistent rate down and can think about one more thing.

Yes!  I agree.  I have students that see a bad score and give up right off the bat instead of seeing a little bit of success and trying again.

My beginners HATE SmartMusic, and they build up a wall then refuse to go back and try it later.  Make it more accessible when they are just starting out.

As a teacher, I can go in and change a lot of the scores of actual tests, but that is just on tests.  That won't help them on their practicing.
