Why do I have to click on the computer-assigned grade, and then on the Comments box before I can click Validate Grade?

Are you changing the computer-assigned grade?

If not, you don't need to validate the grade.  It's already in the Gradebook.

If you are changing the grade, you've already clicked in that box.  Adding a comment is not necessary.

I have it set to not automatically grade the assignment. So it shows me the % but does not put that grade in the gradebook, it just turns blue (submitted). In the grading view, the Validate Grade is gray until I either change the grade or click on the grade and the comments box. It's weird. Maybe I should change the settings to automatically grade.

If you change it to auto grade, you lose the ability to reassign something.

I would like to see the ability to re-assign

Also, I would like to see in the gradebook cubes if I edited the grades so I don't keep going back to the ones I had adjusted.

Please consider reading my posts and voting...I have a lot but know it will help all of us.

I am having the same issue as before. When I regrade an assignment and want to change the grade, I can't the validate button to become active to select it.
