I cannot get any modifications to assignments to "stick". I try to alter due dates, which students assigned, etc. Doesn't work.
I have also noticed that the grade book does not update. When I grade an assignment the box remains blue

This happened to me too. I found that if I tried to change the due date by clicking the pencil icon (edit) from my Gradebook, it wouldn't change. Later, I went to View All on my main page and I was able to change the assignment there - but then I had to reassign the assignment and risked losing the grade of students who had already turned things in.
I think it will come down to a matter of. "Is this worth the time/stress?" I'm happy that my students are able to access this for free, and that comes along with its own problems. I finally gave up and just entered the end of the school year for all of my due dates for items on SmartMusic. Most of us have to enter grades into another online system anyway. My district uses SchoolLoop. I use that to assign due dates. If something isn't turned in by that date, I mark it missing. There is nothing like a 0 to get some of my students going. That being said, under the circumstances, I give students full credit even if they turn in assignments late. I am not usually that lenient during a regular school year, but let's face it, none of this is normal. We have no idea what's happening at home. Right now, I think we are all just trying to get through the next two months and hope something sticks.
