When a student opens an assignment in MakeMusic Cloud, they can save a take for the assignment before submitting it for a grade. They can submit this take when ready or resave a better take if they record a better version. This allows the student to save the take in a session and then close and reopen the assignment without losing their work. This article describes how the new features and user interface work.

Opening an Assignment

When opening the My Takes menu after opening an assignment for the first time, the menu will display several new options. These options will be unavailable until the first take has been recorded.

After the first take is recorded, the controls will be enabled and the take will be listed in the take selection dropdown menu. The buttons to the right of the take selection dropdown menu always affect the take that is selected in the menu.

If the student records a take that they like, they can choose to save this take by clicking the Save button. This take is now saved to their Gradebook and shows as the Currently Saved take (with the assessment score and date of recording) on the left-hand side of the app. Clicking the Gradebook icon will open the assignment in the student's Gradebook.

The student can continue to practice and record more takes and, if they would like to save a new take, they can do so by clicking the Save button again. The window that opens will show their score, the currently saved take, and the one the new one for comparison.

The student can now close their browser window and the saved take will remain saved.

Accessing a Saved Take

From the Gradebook, the student can access the assignment to submit this take or reopen it and continue to practice for a better score. The Gradebook can be accessed by clicking on the Class on the Home page and then clicking View All from the Assignments Due list.

The assignment will be shown in yellow as "Saved" with the assessment score of the take. Clicking on this will show the take in detail and load the recording as well.

From here the student can choose Open Assignment or Submit. Choosing Open Assignment will open the assignment in the Practice app with the score displayed, allowing the student to continue to practice. If a better score is recorded, the student can choose to save this take and replace the previous take.

A take can be submitted at any point when the student is ready. Once a take is saved, it can be submitted from either Gradebook or the Practice app. If the student clicks Submit from within Practice, and there is a saved take, the app will show them both the current take and the saved take before submitting. This allows them to make sure they are choosing their best take.

When submitting from either the Gradebook or Practice, the student will be given the option to add a comment to this.

Once the student clicks Submit, this is final and the assignment cannot be resaved or resubmitted unless it is reassigned by the teacher.
